Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum released his fundraising numbers for March and his spokesman says they reflect the momentum building behind the campaign.

A statement released by the campaign Thursday morning says Gillum raised a combined total of $336,116. That includes $125,366 raised by the campaign itself, while another $210,750 was brought in by Gillum’s political committee, Forward Florida.

That’s an increase of more than $90,000 from what the campaign and the committee raised in February.

“Our supporters responded overwhelmingly this month to Andrew’s momentum,” said Geoff Burgan, the campaign’s communications director. “From monthly polling that shows us in second place over the previous frontrunner, to incredible energy around Andrew’s victories over the gun lobby, we’re building the wave we need to win in both August and November.

Gillum’s campaign received a boost of confidence a couple of weeks ago when a poll released by Gravis Marketing showed Gillum jumping ahead of former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham for second place in the race for the Democratic nomination. Gillum, Tallahassee’s mayor, trailed former Miami Beach mayor Philip Levine 13 percent to 11 percent.

“Floridians are tired of politicians going through election-year conversions to win their votes, and they’re going to back Andrew’s strong record on issues like health care, gun safety, and the economy,” Burgan said.

The Capitolist’s own tracking poll, the HorseRace Index, which uses a weighted average formula, shows Gillum in third place. He trails frontrunner Levine by almost 4 percentage points.
