I just itched my leg with the business end of a click-pen thinking it
wasn't "armed".  Now I have blue ink all over myself.  Is it Friday yet?

I once did that to my neck. It sucked.

where is that article from re: the schedule

10/24/2007 - 5:07 pm

House leaders had to dish up some disappointment Tuesday to colleagues
who might have been hoping to make plans for long holiday vacations.

During a private meeting of the Democratic Caucus, Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland advised members to plan on being in session during the
first two weeks of December, with votes between Tuesday and Thursday
each of those weeks.

That news was bad enough, but it set off alarms about the prospects of the session running almost until Christmas Day.

Majority Whip James E. Clyburn
of South Carolina said leaders had made no decision about the
schedule beyond the second week. But he acknowledged that concerns were
being raised because “the fourth week leads to Christmas.”

Party leaders blame the scheduling challenges on the difficulty of resolving disputes with the White House on fiscal priorities.

I demand a retraction from the racists at the Weekly Standard! Her office is located in RAYBURN, not CANNON! That's an extra TWO BLOCK WALK. What? Just because she's a black woman she needs to walk?

The House voted 261-153 to allow native Hawaiians to reorganize into a single government entity with negotiating power at the state and federal levels.

Mike Huckabee on immigration and... abortion?
"Sometimes we talk about why we're importing so many people in our workforce. It might be for the last 35 years, we have aborted more than a million people who would have been in our workforce had we not had the holocaust of liberalized abortion under a flawed Supreme Court ruling in 1973."

10/24/2007 - 3:58 pm

Why are the crazies always yelling, "But I didnt do anything!" when they get hauled off.  WHY??? They can't honestly believe shouting and flailing about in a committee room is acceptable behaviour.

10/24/2007 - 3:58 pm

I always love those types of videos where they "victim" is insisting that they "didn't do anything."  They almost always begin with the cops already arresting them - sort of skipping the "why" are they being arrested part.  Then, all the screaming and crying and making a scene instead of cooperating.  I think the Cap Police did a great job restraining themselves; if it were me, well, the butt of my gun would have pink stains on it.

10/24/2007 - 3:58 pm

I wish the Senate had a running on-screen tally of the votes as they happen on C-Span 2 the way the House does on C-Span. Is there a reason for that?

Well, the Senate doesn't vote electronically, for starters...

10/24/2007 - 2:16 pm

Are you quoting Kindergarten Cop? Because you fucked it up.

10/24/2007 - 2:04 pm

Boys have a penis.  Girls have a vagina.

10/24/2007 - 2:01 pm

Anyone here "know anyone" who works for or has worked for SJL?

Is she really that batshit crazy?

10/24/2007 - 1:39 pm

Fuck....the Dream Act fails again...

10/24/2007 - 12:52 pm

Damn....I wish I could tell how the vote was going.

10/24/2007 - 12:43 pm

Dream Act cloture vote....the suspense is killing me...

10/24/2007 - 12:34 pm

SENATORS IN
GREEN displayed in the list below are consistently telling their
constituents that they will vote NO on the amnesty. But they have
declined to pledge a NO vote to NumbersUSA staff, meaning they still
need more phone calls.

Why is Sen. Webb reading as if he just completed the 3rd grade?

10/24/2007 - 12:27 pm

Well, maybe he meant all of the billions of undocumented immigrants that are against it too...

10/24/2007 - 12:08 pm

Mr. Anti-Immigrant Sen. Vitter just made a comment about the Dream Act. He basically said that "billions" of Americans are against  this bill. There are about 300 million Americans....yet he says "billions" of Americans are against it. Moron...

10/24/2007 - 12:07 pm

10/24/2007 - 11:43 am

bunch of code pinkos were predictably hauled out of the meeting several times, I think the earlier group (the usuals, short chubbier blond lady and the Transgendered lady and another older woman) were hauled out and commenced screaming until they were removed from the area. They're here for the Hearing with Condoleeza Rice and apparently someone got up in Rice's face and was screaming at her

"Behind closed doors" and "cram down our throats" is some of the dumbest rhetoric I've ever heard, and I am a Republican.

10/24/2007 - 11:27 am

Can someone here give 5-7 points on what the bill is and 5-7 on what it is not?

10/24/2007 - 11:19 am

read the bill, in state rates got taken out

I wish constituents would read the bill as well....then they would be better informed.

10/24/2007 - 11:06 am

Ok, vote on the nomination happening now. Someone post a total when it comes in please.

10/24/2007 - 11:03 am

This is coming from a Democrat, so understand that I agree with much of what my party stands for, but here is my question...
Why would we give "in-state" rates to those who are not legal residents of that state?
We have students, who are legal residents of other states, who dont get that break in fees, how is this fair to them?
We
have students who come here legally, from other countries, who do the
right thing and apply, and wait, and also pay the normal "out of state"
fees? How is this fair to those who have done nothing but follow the
rules?
I ask this, because I dont understand and am looking for real answers.

Thank you.

"We" would not be giving them in-state tuition rates. It would be left up to the University. That's some misinformation being spread by the racist rednecks.

10/24/2007 - 10:59 am

Please listen to the people! Vote NO to any immiration resolution that may again be put before the Senate. Do you hear us?

Yep, we hear you, and the right wing asshole on the radio who got you worked up about the issue moments ago.

10/24/2007 - 10:59 am

I just got one call which included references to the Dream Act, the North American Union, Law of the Sea, and the Amero...all in one call. Freakin' loons...

if you get calls from people who are going through calling every
senator about the dream act, put them on hold for a while.  if they are
going to call every senator we can at least slow them down and make
them wait.

Damn I wish I thought of that, I miss the days of long distance actually costing people money, they I bet some of these LOST/NAU/DREAM Act douches would have to choose between their "smokes" or calling Congress.  I wonder who would win that debate....

10/24/2007 - 10:45 am

...oh and I've also been known to do something else. The really irate
ones who refuse to give name or address and do not want a "form
letter." ....I look up their info via the phone number and send them a
form letter anyway.

Awesome.

10/24/2007 - 10:40 am

"my grandchildren are going to grow up speaking spanish and bowing down to Allah."  Really?

It's sad really that in much of the rest of the world being multilingual in consider to be positive...yet here we have so many (racist rednecks) who demonize it.

10/24/2007 - 10:33 am

Anyone else getting callers who want to talk about both the DREAM Act
and the Law of the Sea Treaty?  Frankly it makes me take their
anti-immigration views even less seriously when they're ranting and
raving about how LoST will take away all of our sovereignty or
whatever...

It's because those folks also happen to be the paranoid isolationist conspiracy theory loons who believe in the North American Union, the NAFTA Super Highway, the One World Order, the Illuminati, bigfoot, and that Elvis is actually alive.

10/24/2007 - 10:30 am

Not making fun, I swear.  The woman has lovely hair.

I don't usually take offense to the things written on this board, but don't you dare make fun of Marsha Blackburn. Because I know that one day Marsha and I are gonna to get married on top of a
mountain, and there's going to be flutes playing and trombones and
flowers and garlands of fresh herbs. And we will dance till the sun
rises. And then our children will form a family band. And we will tour
the countryside and you won't be invited.

10/24/2007 - 10:27 am

It's best to cut them (non-constituents) off (if the senator has taken
a position) and say that his position, thank you for calling and hang
up.

Sometimes, if I'm not too busy, I like to have a little fun with them...especially if the caller ID shows me they are from another state. I use http://www.411.com/reverse_phone to get their correct address. So then if they try to lie and give a fake address (one within our state) I will mentioned that, "It looks like you might be calling from _____." Also, I might just make up some name of a fake lake and say, "Well, you must have a wonderful view of lake whatever from there."

...oh and I've also been known to do something else. The really irate ones who refuse to give name or address and do not want a "form letter." ....I look up their info via the phone number and send them a form letter anyway.

10/24/2007 - 10:27 am

why does rep. blackburn use "congressman" instead of congresswoman?  I don't mean to be snarky--is this indicative that congressman is moving toward gender neutrality?  is this a mistake?  do other female reps use  this term?  thoughts...

Tatses like irony.

Is it just me or are the anti-immigrant racist a lot less motivated this time around? I'm in the state office and last time we had all lines busy all day long. Not today...just a little flurry of calls now and then. I feel sorry for the folks in our D.C. office though. They are getting slammed...

10/24/2007 - 9:51 am

Someone called pissed off about our MoC being in support of the Dream Act. They wanted to know how to go about recalling him. I then informed them that our state...is not one of the 18 in which you can recall a U.S. Senator and that their next opportunity to vote against him would be in 2012. :) Boy that was fun....

Does anyone have any experience with the Dental Plans that are offered?
I have a family of 7, so am looking for one that works well,
particularly with Blue Cross as my primary health care provider.

Had decent results with MetLife high-end coverage. We've paid minimal out-of-pocket and my wife's had three root canals and two crowns thus far (some lousy oral surgeon cracked two molars when taking out her wisdom teeth and never bothered to inform her -- nice) but have MD IPA as a primary.

10/24/2007 - 8:49 am

I meant a holding pattern for security in the rain....sorry

10/24/2007 - 8:49 am

Thought for the day: Some (not all) female staffers should try to avoid a holding in the security line in the rain.  Deciding to wear your "pretty shoes" is no excuse for getting your colleagues soaked as you beep through security numerous times.

10/24/2007 - 8:48 am

Last night on my way to Vapiano (18th and M), I ran into SHAKAYE HENRY. She wasn't talking about soul exploitation, she had a different scheme: being homeless. At least she has a cell phone for her lobbying efforts. I wonder if she's registered with the FEC...
