Calling Himself “an Alternative to the Establishment Candidates,” Rep. Jay Fant Loans his Campaign for Attorney General $750,000

Republican candidate for Attorney General, Jay Fant, announced Friday he has loaned his campaign $750,000.

Fant says his campaign has strong grassroots support, but he wants to offer Floridians an alternative.

“I am investing my own funds because Floridians deserve an alternative to the establishment candidates in the field,” Fant said. “As the only conservative and the only candidate who has signed the front of a paycheck I will protect individual liberties and free enterprise.”

Fant made the loan to his campaign last month, placing his total campaign funds raised so far at more than $958,000.

“We have over a year until the election and we are just getting started.  Our donor and grassroots support are strong and we are looking forward to the next 13 months on the campaign trail,” Fant added.

Currently, the only other candidate in the Republican primary is Ashley Moody a former circuit judge from Hillsborough County. Moody, who has the backing of current Attorney General Pam Bondi, has raised nearly $756,000. That total does not include contributions for September.

Bondi is term-limited after having served two terms as Attorney General.

Fant, a state representative from Jacksonville, entered the race for Attorney General in May the day after the end of the regular legislative session. He is currently serving his second term in the House representing District 15.

He is pledging to commit additional personal campaign funds as needed.

The only Democrat currently in the race is Tampa attorney Ryan Torrens.
