A poll released Monday afternoon by the Florida Chamber of Commerce shows state Agricultural Commissioner Adam Putnam holding a 17-point lead over U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis in the Republican primary for governor.

The Chamber’s survey shows 32 percent of the Republican voters polled support Putnam compared to 15  percent for DeSantis. However, 48 percent of Republican voters are still undecided.

“Voters believe Florida is on the right track and that Adam Putnam can keep Florida moving in the right direction,” said Mark Wilson, president and CEO, Florida Chamber of Commerce.

The poll shows Putnam leading in all of the major media markets with the exception of the Miami market.

He leads all age categories with his biggest lead coming in the 18-49 age range. Putnam received 42 percent support from those voters compared to 7 percent for DeSantis. Among those 50-64 in age, Putnam holds a 34 percent to 5 percent lead. Voters 65 and older favor Putnam by 27 percent to 17 percent.

Putnam leads among men receiving the support of those who plan to vote in the primary, while receiving 18 percent among women.

“In our fight to secure Florida’s future, the Florida Chamber’s Political Operations team is constantly checking the pulse of voter attitudes toward candidates and issues, analyzing data for trends, and researching how to help ensure the right things happen in Florida,” said Marian Johnson, senior vice president, Florida Chamber Political Operations.

The Florida Chamber endorsed Putnam for governor in early May.

The poll was taken June 7-9 and was conducted by Cherry Communications. It sampled 501  likely Republican voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.3 percent.
