Pro-Bill Nelson Super PAC raises questions about whether Rick Scott can be trusted in latest TV spot

by | Jun 15, 2018

U.S. Senator Bill Nelson is receiving more help from a political committee that provides support to Senate Democratic candidates. The help comes in the form of a new digital ad (see below) buy that hits back at the record of Nelson’s opponent, Gov. Rick Scott.

The ad, paid for by the Senate Majority  PAC, draws attention to Scott’s leadership at the hospital chain, Columbia HCA, during an investigation into Medicare fraud. The ad points out, that during a deposition, Scott “pleads the fifth 75 times.” The spot is also critical of Scott’s record as governor.

“After decades of fraud and failure, we can’t send Rick Scott to the Senate,” the announcer says.

The spot follows a $3.5 million spot supporting Scott that was unveiled Monday by the New Republican Super PAC. That spot continues the theme of the Scott campaign which paints Nelson as a longtime career politician who has no major accomplishments during his time in politics.

The New Republican spot starts with a picture of Nelson when he was first elected to the U.S. House in 1972 and shows a total of eight closeups showing him aging through the years he has served in government.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story erroneously mentioned an amount  for the SMP ad buy for Bill Nelson. The SMP does not release details of individual ad buys for candidates.

It’s time for Bill Nelson to retire, the only time he tries to do something for the people is when he’s trying to be re-elected, he’s not the person we need, he’s all for himself and no one else, Rick Scott would be a much better candidate to speak for Florida
