The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) is throwing its support behind Senate President Wilton Simpson‘s bid for Florida Agriculture Commissioner.
AIF, known as the “The Voice of Florida Business” in the Sunshine State, announced the endorsement on Wednesday, touting Simpson’s leadership as a fiscal conservative during his time in the Florida Legislature.
“Wilton Simpson understands that the more affordable Florida is for our businesses, the stronger our economy will be for hardworking families,” said AIF President and CEO Brewster Bevis. “By keeping taxes low, getting rid of job-killing regulations and exercising fiscal responsibility, Wilton has protected the path to prosperity for millions of Floridians. We are confident that he will continue to do so as Florida’s next agriculture commissioner.”
While other Republicans are vying to replace Democratic gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried, Simpson remains the clear frontrunner to win the Republican nomination. To date, the Trilby Republican has banked nearly $12 million in his campaign for ag commissioner, with his coffers being bolstered by a variety of industries and businesses across the state. Simpson’s strong fundraising trend continued in December after the agriculture businessman netted $3.7 million to his war chest.
Simpson has also benefited from several key endorsements, including one from President Donald Trump.

Simpson, who represents Florida District 10, which encompasses much of Pasco and all of Citrus and Hernando counties, filed to run for the Cabinet post last September. His opponents include Democrat Ryan Morales and Republicans Richard Ollie Jr. and James Shaw.
