Senate President Ben Albritton on Monday called a Republican Caucus meeting in October to formally designate Sen. Jim Boyd as the next Senate president.

In a memorandum to GOP senators, Senate President Albritton set the caucus vote for Oct. 14 in the Senate chamber. If confirmed by the caucus, Boyd would become president-designate for the 2026–28 legislative term.

Albritton described Boyd as a trusted colleague since their time entering the House together in 2010. Albritton praised Boyd’s rise to leadership roles in both chambers, citing his work ethic, consensus-building style, and attention to constituent services.

“Jim always works to build consensus and has spent countless hours with Senators on both sides of the aisle exploring and talking through ideas to make legislation stronger and bring tough and complex issues across the finish line,” said Senate President Albritton. “For these reasons, and more, Jim has proven he has the support of Senate Republicans and is ready to lead our Caucus and our Chamber as the 92nd President of the Florida Senate.”

Sen. Boyd, who represents District 20, entered the Legislature in 2010 as part of a large freshman class in the House before moving to the Senate in 2020 and currently serves as Senate majority leader.

Sen. Boyd also holds assignments on several committees, including Banking and Insurance, Fiscal Policy, Regulated Industries, Rules, and the Joint Legislative Budget Commission.

“As we continue into the fourth decade of our Republican Majority in the Florida Senate, now, more than ever, Floridians are showing strong support for a conservative agenda, guided by leaders who defend faith, family, the dignity of work, and the opportunity to live in freedom. Jim Boyd is the right leader to carry on the legacy of Republican leadership in the Florida Senate, and I couldn’t be more blessed by him,” Senate President Albritton said.
