AmeriHealth Caritas adds Baptist Health South Florida to coverage network

AmeriHealth Caritas, a national leader in Medicaid managed care, announced this week that Baptist Health South Florida has joined its health insurance coverage network in Florida.

Through the partnership, Floridians belonging to AmeriHealth Caritas’ umbrella of coverage will have access to twelve of Baptist Health South Florida’s hospitals, more than 200 outpatient centers, urgent care facilities, and physician practices, and more than 500 Baptist Health Medical Group physicians spanning across Miami-Dade, Monroe, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.

“Baptist Health South Florida has served our local Medicaid members for many years and has become an important partner in our company’s efforts to build healthier, stronger communities in the region. We are pleased to expand our relationship to support our new Health Insurance Marketplace members and help ensure they have access to quality care as they continue on their health care journey,” said AmeriHealth Caritas Next President Loretta Lenko.

The coverage will come through the AmeriHealth Caritas Next program, which serves as a new comprehensive plan for AmeriHealth customers in Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties.

AmeriHealth Caritas Florida serves about 120,000 members across seven counties in South Florida. Across AmeriHealth Caritas Florida’s total membership in 2021, 44 percent identified as Black or African American, and nearly 30 percent identified as Hispanic.

The provider reports that after English, Spanish and Haitian Creole are the two languages most spoken by AmeriHealth Caritas Florida members.

The wide-serving range of services led the company to receive the Multicultural Health Care Distinction from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) last week.

The award acknowledges excellence in providing services to meet the diverse cultural and linguistic needs of a health plan’s members, and its work to help address health disparities.

AmeriHealth Caritas Florida is one of eight AmeriHealth Caritas Medicaid managed care health plans to hold the Multicultural Health Care Distinction.

“Receiving the Multicultural Health Care Distinction for AmeriHealth Caritas Florida underscores our commitment to health equity and addressing the social determinates of health with a high degree of cultural awareness and sensitivity,” Florida Market President Kathy Warner said. “Through this important work, we help to provide better health care access to all.”
