AmeriHealth promotes industry veteran to run seven county Medicaid managed care plan

AmeriHealth has promoted a familiar face to the top of its Florida operation. Six-year company veteran Melody Bonomo has been named the new market president for AmeriHealth Caritas Florida, a Medicaid managed care plan serving seven counties in the state. In addition to her time within the company, Bonomo also brings nearly three decades of experience in the Florida healthcare industry to the role, with a specific focus on Medicaid and managed care services.

Kathy Warner, AmeriHealth Caritas Regional President, expressed confidence in Bonomo’s abilities.

“Serving in the Florida health care industry for nearly 30 years, Melody has a deep understanding of Florida’s Medicaid population and the crucial role that managed care plays in the long-term outcomes and overall wellbeing for those in the state,” said Warner. “Through her stewardship and strong strategic vision, I am confident the plan will continue to excel in meeting the evolving needs of our Florida members.”

Before her new appointment, Bonomo served as the director of plan operations and administration at AmeriHealth Caritas Florida. In this role, she oversaw plan performance and led the implementation of various cost-saving and management initiatives and other innovative programs, according to the company’s announcement.

“Over the years, it’s been an honor to be a part of the AmeriHealth Caritas Florida team and witness, first-hand, its positive impact on members’ health and self-sustainability,” Bonomo said in a company press release announcing the promotion. “I look forward to continuing that impact and carrying out our long-standing mission to help people get care, stay well, and build healthy communities.”

Prior to joining AmeriHealth Caritas Florida in 2017, Bonomo spent 20 years as the director of behavioral health provider network management & operations for companies such as Aetna, Coventry Health Care, and MHNet. She holds a Master of Science degree in behavioral health from Stetson University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Florida State University.

AmeriHealth Caritas Florida is part of the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care program and serves residents in Miami-Dade, Monroe, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Okeechobee counties. The plan markets its ability to foster collaboration among network providers to facilitate optimal health outcomes for its members.
