Angie Nixon Wins Florida Democratic U.S. Senate Primary

State Rep. Angie Nixon won Florida’s Democratic primary for U.S. Senate on Tuesday, defeating retired Army Lt. Col. Alex Vindman and advancing to a November matchup against Republican Sen. Ashley Moody.

With most precincts reporting Tuesday night, Nixon held about 56% of the vote compared with 44% for Vindman.

Nixon, who has served in the Florida House since 2020, campaigned primarily on affordability and economic issues, including housing costs, property insurance, health care, wages and child care. She also positioned herself to the left of Vindman on several national policy issues.

Vindman, a retired Army officer and former National Security Council official, became nationally known for his role as a witness during the first impeachment proceedings involving President Donald Trump.

Nixon will now face Moody in the Nov. 3 general election. Moody, Florida’s former attorney general, was appointed to the Senate in 2025 after Marco Rubio left the seat to become secretary of state.

The winner of the general election will serve the remaining two years of the Senate term Rubio won in 2022.
