Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody endorsed Laurel Lee for reelection on Monday in Florida’s 15th Congressional District. The pledge of support comes just days after Gov. Ron DeSantis endorsed the congresswoman.

The attorney general’s endorsement touched on a “longstanding professional relationship” with Lee, dating back to their early careers in law. Lee, a former federal prosecutor, judge, and Florida Secretary of State, has was lauded by Moody for her strong stance on border security.

Moody further praised Lee’s leadership in Congress, particularly her efforts as a House impeachment manager during the trial of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, where Lee contributed to the addressing of the Biden administration’s handling of the southern border.

“Since being elected, she has stood hand-in-hand with our law enforcement, led the charge against the Biden Administration on the crisis at our Southern Border as an impeachment manager for the impeachment trial of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and sponsored and passed the REPORT Act to fight against the exploitation of children, Moody said. “Laurel is a principled conservative, who, with this proven track record, along with her background and expertise, will continue to ensure the people of CD 15 are well represented.”

Lee, whose district includes parts of western Polk County and Lakeland, won election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022, obtaining 41.5 percent of the vote. Lee defeated former lawmakers Kelli Stargel and Jackie Toledo in the party primary, out-fundraising and outspending her opponents. Lee ultimately defeated journalist Alan Cohn to secure her place in Washington’s lower chamber.

Lee also received endorsements from Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott earlier this year.
