Florida police chiefs are endorsing Republican Ashley Moody for attorney general. The Florida Police Chief Association (FPCA), which is composed of more than 1,000 of the state’s top law enforcement executives, made the announcement Tuesday morning.

“As a former federal prosecutor and Circuit Court judge, Ashley Moody has shown dedication in bringing criminals to justice and upholding the law,” said Amy Mercer, FPCA executive director. “She has the knowledge and experience our state needs to address complex public safety issues and has built strong relationships with police chiefs across Florida. The Florida Police Chiefs Association is proud to endorse Ashley Moody as our next Attorney General.”

The endorsement of Moody is the latest coming from a series of law enforcement groups. She has also been endorsed by 42 of Republican sheriffs, the Florida Police Benevolent Association, the Florida Fraternal Order of Police and 12 state attorneys. Moody has also been endorsed by outgoing Attorney General Pam Bondi who is term limited this year.

“Law enforcement professionals need and deserve an Attorney General who has fought alongside them to put criminals behind bars and the experience to successfully help them accomplish their mission of keeping our communities safe,” said Moody. “As Attorney General, I will work to ensure that those who put themselves in harm’s way to protect us have the resources and support to do their jobs and protect their ranks.”

The Florida Police Chiefs Association; is the third largest state police chiefs association in the nation.

“I am sincerely honored to have the support of the Florida Police Chiefs Association and look forward to our work together ensuring a stronger, safer Florida,” Moody said.

Moody is a former prosecutor who served with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and is a former Hillsborough circuit court judge. She is seeking the Republican nomination for attorney general along with state Rep. Frank White, R-Pensacola.
