Associated Industries of Florida, one of the state’s most influential business organizations, on Tuesday endorsed Republican U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds in the race for Florida governor.

In a statement, AIF President and CEO Brewster Bevis said the group supports Donalds based on his legislative record and alignment with policies aimed at promoting economic growth. Bevis cited Donalds’ time in the Florida House and his current role in Congress, describing him as a supporter of efforts to reduce regulatory barriers, encourage private-sector investment and expand job opportunities.

“Since his time as a member of the Florida House and now as a Congressman, Byron has been a champion for policies that foster the growth of Florida’s pro-jobs environment, removing red tape, empowering businesses to thrive, and creating good jobs for families,” said Bevis. “We have no doubt Byron is the man for the job and will be a strong partner in advancing policies that support economic growth and long-term prosperity across our state.”

AIF said it views Donalds as a partner in advancing policies designed to maintain Florida’s pro-business climate and support long-term economic growth across the state. The organization frequently advocates for lower taxes, limited regulation and workforce development initiatives at the state level.

Donalds said he was honored to receive the endorsement and praised AIF for its role in representing employers and job creators.

“I’m honored to be endorsed by Associated Industries of Florida,” said Donalds. “AIF has long been recognized as the leader in advocating for the job creators who keep our state moving forward and understand what it takes to grow a strong economy: a free market system, fewer burdensome regulations, and a workforce ready to meet demand. I’m grateful for AIF’s support as we work together to expand economic opportunity and lower costs for families across every region of the state and take Florida to the next level.”

The endorsement adds to Donalds’ profile in the governor’s race, which includes an endorsement by President Donald Trump, and could help bolster his standing with business leaders and donors.
