State Sens. Jay Trumbull and Tom Leek endorsed U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds in the 2026 race for Florida governor, adding to Donalds’ growing list of Republican supporters in the state Legislature.
The Donalds campaign announced the endorsements Monday, saying both senators cited his conservative record in the Florida Legislature and Congress as the basis for their support.
Trumbull, a Panama City Republican, said Donalds has shown a commitment to conservative principles and the Constitution through his work at both the state and federal levels.
“Byron Donalds commitment to our conservative movement and Constitution is reflected in the work he’s done, both in the Florida Legislature and Washington,” said Senator Trumbull. “As our next Governor, Byron will continue the legacy of leadership that has helped make Florida a nationwide leader and a beacon of freedom and prosperity. I’m looking forward to working together to tackle the challenges Floridians face and seize on the opportunities ahead for our state.”
Leek, an Ormond Beach Republican who served with Donalds in the Florida House, called him a “principled conservative and a proven leader.” He said Donalds demonstrated an understanding of the challenges facing Florida while serving in the Legislature and carried that approach into Congress.
Donalds said the endorsements reflect continued support from Republican leaders across Florida.
“Florida Republican leaders are continuing to line up in support of my campaign,” Donalds said. “It’s clear who they want to lead our great state forward.”
The campaign said Trumbull and Leek join a list of Donalds supporters that includes incoming legislative leaders, more than 75 percent of Florida House Republicans, Attorney General James Uthmeier, a majority of Florida sheriffs, President Donald Trump, and Donald Trump Jr.
