CD3 candidate Gavin Rollins headlines Fox News segments over the weekend

by | Feb 24, 2020

Florida congressional candidate Gavin Rollins had a busy weekend, appearing on a major news network to discuss a multitude of topics relevant to this year’s election cycle.

The Florida National Guard veteran, who is running to replace U.S. Representative Ted Yoho in Florida’s 3rd Congressional District, was interviewed Friday by Fox News to discuss the GOP’s momentum heading into the pivotal 2020 elections.

“I think people are excited and energized, and they also have concern,” Rollins said when asked about why a record breaking number of Republicans were running in 2020. “They’re concerned if we don’t do something now we could lose our country.”

Rollins comments come as Senator Bernie Sanders won the Nevada Caucuses over the weekend, putting separation between himself and the rest of the Democratic primary.

The Clay County commissioner and school teacher also weighed in on the the president, citing his service under President Donald Trump as the catalyst that ignited his congressional bid.

“I actually had the honor of serving under President Trump,” Rollins said, citing his military background that included deployments in East Africa . “He had my back in the combat zone, and when I returned home I realized he’s getting some incoming fire from D.C., and we need to send a soldier to Washington D.C. to support him and fight against socialism.”

Rollins capped off his weekend, appearing on Sunday’s Fox & Friends alongside veterans Peter Meijer, Sean Parnell and Pete Hegseth to discuss conservatives’ agenda to defeat the progressive left’s implementation of socialism in elections across the U.S.

“We didn’t fight overseas to return home and see our country become a socialist country,” Rollins told the veteran panel. “We’re working very hard to make sure we continue to maintain the greatest country in the world.”

Following his segments, Rollins said he was honored to be one of the fresh Republican faces to be featured on the network.

“It was an honor to do a Skype interview with Fox News on Friday and to be one of three candidates featured nationally and then to be on Fox and Friends Sunday with three other veterans who I really respect,” Rollins told The Capitolist. “We had the opportunity to talk about the mission to defeat socialism and how to keep our country safe.”

“It was a great experience and everyone with the Fox and Friends team is so kind,” he continued.

Rollins, 33, is one of many candidates  to throw his hat into the crowded Republican primary looking to replace Yoho after the congressman upheld his pledge to only serve eight years. Also seeking the GOP nomination are former Yoho staffer Kat Cammack, businessman Ryan Chamberlin, businessman Judson Sapp, physician James St. George, businesswoman Amy Pope Wells, Ocala Mayor Kent Guinn, former congressional aide Joe Millado, and former Gainesville City Commissioner Todd Chase

CD3 covers Alachua, Bradford, Clay, Putnam, and Union counties with parts of Marion also included.
