Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lago endorses Vicki Lopez in HD 113

Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lago is backing Republican Vicki Lopez for House District 113.

“I am proud to endorse Vicki Lopez for HD 113,” said Lago. “She is a tried-and-true leader who will never back down from a fight when the welfare of our communities is at stake. I am confident that she is the representative we need in Tallahassee, a strong advocate for government accountability and a champion for the issues important to the citizens of Miami-Dade.”

Prior to his election in 2021, Lago served as City Commissioner for eight years holding the position of Vice Mayor from 2019 to 2021. He has served on many civic boards in Coral Gables, including the Coral Gables Planning and Zoning Board and the Coral Gables Community Foundation Board of Directors.

Lopez is a longtime political activist who runs the Miami-based VLL Consulting. She is a former member of the Lee County Commission and served in state-appointed roles in the Florida Senate and under Governors Jeb Bush, Charlie Crist, and Rick Scott. She has also served in numerous leadership capacities within the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

Lopez, who had originally entered the race for Senate District 38, made the switch to HD 113 in May. She defeated Alberto Perosch for the Republican primary on August 23. Lopez now faces Democrat AJ D’Amico in November.

“It is an honor to have Mayor Vince Lago’s endorsement,” said Lopez. “Since stepping into public service, he has made it his top priority to listen to the Coral Gables community and fully understand the concerns pressing them. He has always fought for transparency, and that is something I deeply admire and will strive to emulate in the Florida House.”

HD 113 encompasses the heart of Miami and includes Key Biscayne, Miami’s City Hall, Calle Ocho, Brickell Avenue, the Miami River, and the Port of Miami.
