Gov. Ron DeSantis has suspended Orlando City Commissioner Regina Hill via Executive Order following her indictment on multiple felony charges.
Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an Executive Order on Monday to suspend Orlando City Commissioner Regina Hill, in response to her indictment on several felony charges.
The charges against Hill, as laid out in the order, include three counts of exploitation of an elderly person or disabled person for amounts exceeding $50,000, one count of scheming to defraud of $50,000 or more, one count of fraudulent use of personal identification over $100,000, and one count of mortgage fraud greater than $100,000.
The allegations stem from Hill’s indictment by the Circuit Court of the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Orange County.
“She has been indicted, she is facing felony charges, and in every instance since I’ve been governor, when a local official has been facing felony charges, they’ve been suspended,” DeSantis said during a Monday press conference. “If she’s convicted she’ll be out for good. If she’s exonerated she could come back.”
Effective immediately, Hill is barred from performing any duties associated with her office, receiving any form of compensation, or enjoying any privileges of her position pending the resolution of her case. The suspension remains in effect until an acquittal, further executive order, or other legal resolution.
The Governor’s Office has not announced a temporary replacement for Hill’s position. The outcome of this case and the subsequent actions by the state government are anticipated to have significant implications for the standards of conduct expected of public officials in Florida.
