A new poll shows tightening races in Florida, with Donald Trump leading Kamala Harris by one point and Rick Scott holding two-point lead over Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.
A poll published this week by the Independent Center shows tightening races for Republican candidates Donald Trump and Rick Scott in Florida’s 2024 election cycle.
In the general election, Trump holds a slight lead over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, with 48 percent of Florida voters supporting him compared to 47 percent for Harris. When an unidentified third-party candidate is included, Trump’s support shifts to 46 percent, while Harris sinks to 45 percent, with 4 percent backing the independent candidate. Five percent of voters are undecided, according to the poll.
A USA TODAY/Suffolk University/WSVN-TV poll published last month gave Trump a five point lead over Harris in the state.
In the U.S. Senate race, Scott leads Democratic challenger Debbie Mucarsel-Powell by two points, with the incumbent garnering 46 percent support; Mucarsel-Powell trails with 44 percent. The poll shows 10 percent of voters remain undecided.
As with the general election poll, when factoring in a third-party candidate, Scott’s support drops to 43 percent and Mucarsel-Powell’s to 42 percent, with 4 percent favoring the independent candidate and 11 percent undecided.
Capitalizing on Mucarsel-Powell’s momentum, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee announced on Thursday a multimillion-dollar investment for television advertising in support of the former Congresswoman. According to the DSCC, the new ad spending will focus on highlighting Senator Scott’s record, which the committee characterizes as “unpopular among voters.” This investment will supplement television advertising already planned by Mucarsel-Powell’s campaign, with the DSCC signaling that additional resources could be allocated as the election cycle progresses.
The poll, conducted from September 20 to 23, has a margin of error of ±4 percentage points.
