Florida Bars

Late Thursday, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) announced that bars would re-open at 50 percent capacity on Monday. With many bars and breweries struggling across the state, the Emergency Order is the next step in helping Florida recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Could Phase 3 soon follow?

Amendment 2

The fight against raising Floridaā€™s minimum wage to $15 continued this week, with economists releasing an analysis showing how detrimental the wage hike would be to jobs around the state. The study revealed that workers across the state will suffer if Ballot Amendment 2 passes, with at least 158,000 jobs being killed if approved in November.

Florida Supreme Court

Early Friday, the Florida Supreme Court issued a ruling that because Palm Beach Circuit Judge Renatha Francis is currently not qualified by the rules of the state constitution to be a Florida Supreme Court justice. Governor Ron DeSantis is now tasked with finding a replacement by noon on Monday. With the clock ticking, here are a few potential candidates to replace Francis.

U.S. Supreme Court

In a public declaration by President Donald Trump, Florida Supreme Court JusticeĀ Carlos MuƱiz and federal appeals-court Judge Barbara Lagoa found themselves on the presidentā€™s United States Supreme Court short list. While Trump will need to secure a second term, both DeSantis appointees find themselves in rare company with U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, and U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley.

Fresh off her victory in the Republican primary, the GOP nominee for Floridaā€™s 3rd Congressional District earned an endorsement from State Representative Bobby Payne. The endorsement was just an appetizer, with the businesswoman picking up a ā€˜yugeā€™ seal of approval from President Trump on Thursday.
