Emoji-Meter: Tropical Storm Eta, Georgia Recount, and more!

šŸ”„ EMOJI-METER šŸ”„

Sometimes words just arenā€™t enough.

Tropical Storm Eta

Eta finally made landfall on Floridaā€™s west coast Thursday morning. The storm swept across the state, bringing downpours, severe weather, and maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. The 28-named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season finally moved across Florida and is expected to reach the east coast by Thursday afternoon.

Georgia Recount

Georgia continues to be the center of the political world, as all eyes focus on how the runoffs will determine which party will control the Senate. Adding a new twist to the ongoing election saga, Georgiaā€™s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced on Wednesday that he would oversee a hand recount in the presidential election in every county in the state. Democrat Joe Biden currently holds a 14,000 vote lead over President Donald Trump.

Florida Republicans

Speaking of the Peach Stateā€™s election process, GOP officials around the Sunshine State are working to maintain a majority in the high chamber and add transparency to Georgiaā€™s upcoming recount. Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio are both stumping for Republican Senate candidates David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler. Both Republican Senate candidates will have their elections decided in January after neither candidate was able to hit 50 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff. Meanwhile, State Representative Anthony Sabatini is heading to the neighboring state to help with the audit.

Jared Moskowitz

The head of the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) has made his politics crystal clear as of late, seemingly auditioning for a potential role in a Biden administration on Twitter. His controversial comments place the Governor in an awkward position with Trumpā€™s administration, because Moskowitz, a Democrat, is expected to maintain a good working relationship with the federal government.

The Masters

Itā€™s finally here! After a tumultuous year of sports, we will finally get to watch the super bowl of golf. One of four major PGA championships, the Masters is scheduled to be played the first week in April. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament was pushed back to November. Will Floridaā€™s own, Tiger Woods, capture his record-tying sixth green jacket?
