Florida gas prices declined last week, though pump prices remained well above last year’s levels.
The state average for regular unleaded gasoline fell 20 cents over the week, dropping from $4.43 per gallon to $4.23 on Sunday, according to AAA. The decline comes as nearly 2.6 million Floridians are expected to travel for the holiday weekend, including more than 2.3 million by car.
Despite the recent decrease, drivers are still paying significantly more than they did a year ago. Florida’s average price on Memorial Day 2025 was $3.06 per gallon, about $1.15 lower than Sunday’s average. AAA said that means Memorial Day travelers will pay about $17 more than last year to fill an average-sized tank.
Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA-The Auto Club Group, said that “Global supply concerns regarding the conflict with Iran has kept upward pressure on fuel prices. This could continue through the summer months unless a resolution is reached.”
AAA also warned that prices could rise again after oil prices increased $10 per barrel last week to $105.42. Gasoline futures also climbed 18 cents per gallon.
West Palm Beach-Boca Raton had the state’s highest metro average at $4.42, while Pensacola had the lowest at $4.07.
