Florida Medical Association appoints Joshua Lenchus as new President

  • The Florida Medical Association (FMA) on Monday announced Dr. Joshua Lenchus as the organization’s new President 
  • Lenchus has served in a variety of FMA leadership roles including Speaker, President-Elect, and Vice Speaker 
  • Currently, Lenchus is the Chief Medical Officer for Broward Health, one of Florida’s largest health brands 

The Florida Medical Association (FMA) on Monday announced its appointment of Joshua Lenchus, DO as the next President of the organization. Lenchus presently serves as Chief Medical Officer for Broward Health.

Lenchus has held a variety of leadership roles within FMA including President-Elect, Speaker, and Vice Speaker, in addition to serving on several councils and committees.

Lenchus is also an FMA Political Action Committee member, a past President of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, and former President of the Miami-Dade County Osteopathic Medical Society. 

“As a practicing physician and an experienced organized medicine leader, Dr. Lenchus is well prepared to represent the FMA’s advocacy efforts on behalf of Florida’s physicians and their patients,” said FMA CEO Chris Clark. “We look forward to Dr. Lenchus’ leadership over the next year as the FMA continues helping our members practice medicine throughout the Sunshine State.”

Lenchus joined Broward Health in 2018 as Chief Medical Officer for the health system’s flagship hospital, Broward Health Medical Center. He became interim Chief Medical Officer for Broward Health in 2021 and recently accepted the position on a permanent basis.

Lenchus received his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Florida and worked as a pharmacist for three years before pursuing physician practice. Lenchus earned his medical degree from the Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2000 and completed his internal medicine residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

Following residency, Lenchus worked as a hospitalist for the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he also became an associate professor of medicine, anesthesiology, and radiology. Lenchus went on to serve as an associate program director for Jackson Memorial’s internal medicine residency program from 2007 to 2016.

Additional elected officers for 2022-23 include President-Elect Jason Goldman, MD, Vice President Lisa Cosgrove, MD, Treasurer Charles Chase, DO, Speaker Ashley Norse, MD, Vice Speaker Mark Rubenstein, MD, Secretary Alma Littles, MD, and Immediate Past President Douglas Murphy, Jr., MD.
