The Florida Medical Association (FMA) installed Florida State University College of Medicine Dean Alma Littles on Aug. 1 as its 150th president, making her the first medical school dean to lead the organization.
Littles, a board-certified family medicine physician, took office during the association’s annual meeting in Orlando. She will serve as president for the 2026-27 term.
A Quincy native, Littles helped plan and open FSU’s medical school in the early 2000s. She previously served as interim dean, senior associate dean for medical education and academic affairs, and founding chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health.
“Dr. Littles is a remarkable person and a consistently remarkable physician leader,” said FMA Chief Executive Officer Chris Clark. “The FMA has always valued having close relationships with Florida’s medical schools. So, the fact that Dr. Littles is the first medical school dean to serve as FMA President in our organization’s history is especially meaningful.”
Littles earned her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed her family medicine residency at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where she later served as chief resident. She also operated a private practice in Quincy and directed Tallahassee Memorial’s Family Medicine Residency Program.
Her previous leadership roles include serving as president of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians and the Capital Medical Society. She received the American Medical Women’s Association’s Elizabeth Blackwell Medal in 2019.
Mark Rubenstein, a Jupiter physiatrist, will serve as the association’s president-elect.
