An estimated 410,000 Floridians were unemployed in April out of a labor force of 11.2 million. The national unemployment rate held steady at 4.2% during the same period.

Florida employers added 21,300 nonagricultural jobs over the month, a 0.2% increase, bringing the state’s total employment to 10.07 million. Over the year, Florida gained 144,100 jobs, reflecting a 1.5% annual growth rate, outpacing the national job growth rate of 1.2%.

The education and health services sector led all industries with a gain of 48,200 jobs over the year, a 3.2% increase. Trade, transportation, and utilities added 26,200 jobs, while government employment grew by 18,400 positions.

On a regional level, the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford metropolitan area reported the largest annual employment increase with 28,300 new jobs, followed by Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall with 20,900, and the Tampa metropolitan division with 14,500. However, the St. Petersburg-Clearwater-Largo, Naples-Marco Island, and Cape Coral-Fort Myers areas all recorded year-over-year job losses.
