Calling it her “dream job,” former First District Court of Appeal Judge Simone Marstiller says she is “weighing her options” for a possible candidacy for Florida Attorney General.
The Tallahassee Republican began her legal career working for the state in 1996 in various legal capacities after graduating from Stetson University College of Law.
In 2001, she was named assistant general counsel to Gov. Jeb Bush. After leaving to work as general counsel and later interim secretary for the Department of Management Services, Marstiller returned to the Governor’s Office to serve as deputy chief of staff for Bush and later as the state’s chief information officer.
Marstiller is no stranger to the Office of Attorney General. Former Attorney General Bill McCollum appointed her associate deputy attorney general in 2007.
Three years later, while serving as the executive director of the Florida Elections Commission, Gov. Charlie Crist tabbed Marstiller to serve on the First District Court of Appeal. She served on the appeals court for six years
She now runs her private law firm.
The 52-year-old Marstiller, who was born in Monrovia, Liberia, and grew up in St. Petersburg, plans to take her time in making a decision on whether to run for Attorney General. So far only one candidate has announced. Republican state Representative Jay Fant announced last week he was running for the position.
Current Attorney Genera Pam Bondi will leave the post at the end of next year after serving her second and final term.
