Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum has come off his primary upset in the primary last week and isn’t wasting any time getting his campaign geared up for the general election contest.

Gillum’s campaign unveiled its first television ad (see below) Tuesday afternoon. It’s called, “American Way.” It’s aimed at introducing Floridians to Gillum and his family and sends the message that the American way is still alive in Florida.

The spot starts with video of Gillum and his wife, R. Jai Gillum, voting in the primary election with their children. The video then shows the Gillum’s at their election night victory party. All along you hear clips of newscasts extolling Gillum’s come from behind win.

The spot ends with Gillum’s comments to supporters.

“The American way still lives and the state of Florida has to show the rest of the world,” Gillum says in the spot. “And let it begin right here.”

The Gillum campaign says the ad is part of a six-figure media buy that will air on cable channels across Florida, as well as statewide  on digital platforms.

“Today our campaign launched our first general election television and digital ad. “American Way” will introduce Floridians to Mayor Gillum and his family, and remind voters that the American Dream is still possible and it begins right here in Florida,” said Geoff Burgan, communications director of the Gillum campaign.

The Gillum campaign is off to a quick start early in the general election contest. In addition to the television spot, he appeared on a number of network news programs over the weekend and  attending a Labor Day celebration in Jacksonville on Monday.

His Republican opponent, Ron DeSantis, has not yet to hit the airwaves.
