Gov. Rick Scott accuses his opponent in the race for the U.S. Senate, incumbent Bill Nelson of failing to do his job — again. This time for Nelson’s failure to meet with U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh before his confirmation hearings began.
The hearings got underway Tuesday morning before the Senate Judiciary Committee amid protests from those in the audience. The hearing began without a face-to-face meeting between Nelson and Kavanaugh. Scott accused Nelson of following the direction of congressional Democratic leadership.
“Unfortunately, Bill Nelson has failed to do his job, pledging to vote against the nominee without knowing who it was and refusing to even meet with Judge Kavanaugh – choosing instead to ask rhetorical questions to reporters when he could have reviewed the judge’s record face to face,” Scott said in a written statement.
“Clearly, Bill Nelson does not have the independence or courage to oppose his party bosses, and with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi controlling his vote, it’s like Nelson doesn’t even have one – which must be why he hasn’t bothered to schedule a meeting,” Scott added. “ Either way, this failure is a dereliction of Bill Nelson’s duty as a U.S. Senator and he should be ashamed for siding with party bosses in Washington over the people of Florida.”
But Nelson has insisted he has not decided how he’ll vote and won’t make a decision until after the hearings conclude.
U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said Tuesday morning at a news conference in Weston that confirmation of Kavanaugh would move the country back to the time of “back-alley” abortions and eliminate protections provided by Obamacare.
As reported by the Sun-Sentinel, Wasserman Schultz objected to the Trump administration’s refusal to turn over 100,000 documents produced during his time in at the White House under George W. Bush.
“What the Trump administration is doing is the furthest thing from transparency,” Wasserman Schultz said.
“I have taken the time to learn about Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s record and it is clear he has the experience and objectivity to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court,” Scott said in his written statement in defense of Kavanaugh. “Judge Kavanaugh has the highest possible rating from the American Bar Association and will work to uphold our Constitution – not legislate from the bench.”
Nelson is a puppet, pull his strings and he responds. Not what we need in Washington!!
