Governor defends press secretary after Washington Post report

by | Jun 9, 2022

Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday defended his press secretary, Christina Pushaw, after The Washington Post reported that Pushaw this week registered as a foreign agent because of previous work for the former president of the country of Georgia.

The Post report said Pushaw “belatedly” registered as a foreign agent of Mikheil Saakashvili after working for Saakashvili from 2018 to 2020. The Post quoted Pushaw’s attorney as saying that the U.S. Department of Justice had contacted Pushaw to inform her of a requirement to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

Democrats, including Florida gubernatorial candidates Nikki Fried and Charlie Crist, quickly criticized DeSantis and Pushaw. But asked about the Post story, DeSantis described it as a “smear” against Pushaw.

“I am not deterred by any smear piece from these legacy media outlets. The only reason they’re attacking her is because she does a great job, and she’s very effective at calling out their lies and their phony narratives. And so, whenever they’re smearing somebody, you know that person is over the target, and so they’re scared of that. I would be much more concerned with my press secretary if The Washington Post was writing puff pieces about her,” DeSantis said.

Pushaw has become a controversial figure as press secretary, frequently clashing with critics of DeSantis on Twitter. The biography on her Twitter profile says that she is “debunking false Narratives about Florida” and the governor.

Pushaw also responded to the article in an interview Wednesday with WPTV News.

“The governor said it better than I could. It is an attempt at a smear. It’s non-news,” she said, adding that she “worked for a Ukrainian politician, former president of Georgia, ending in 2020. I started working in Florida six months later, so it has nothing to do with my work in Florida.”

The Washington Post has strange standards. Bezos is a Democrat oligarch who uses his newspaper as a propaganda sheet. Russia, Russia, Russia! The so-called progressive politicians funnel your cash to the oligarchs who finance them and try to keep them in power. Do you realize that the 8.5% inflation you are enduring is cash going directly to these oligarchs? Their goals is to drain the working class of their financial reserves so that they can control you through government nanny state programs. Nikki Fried and Charlie Christ are just two of their minions. If De Santis is elected President Nikki or Charlie could be elected governor now that all those Northeasterner Democrats have fled to the Great Free state of Florida.

The fleeing progressives from Boston wrecked New Hampshire. So far, they have only inflated the value of our homes here in Florida. What is next?

Anonymous? Of course you remain anonymous with your stupid comments. Too ashamed to have your name exposed. And, you forgot to mention the others who arrived in Florida and helped inflate the value of Florida homes—people named Trump and Kushner and Stone, for example.

Your sarcastic comment shows your “hatred” and attempts support an Agenda and spread division. FACT: Mr. Trump and his family have had homes in Florida since the early 90s. FACT: People are leaving liberal States due to high taxes, over-spending and facist lockdowns.

So, the Fascist Republican governor of Florida believes that publishing a FACTUAL truth is a “hit piece?” You can’t get more FASCIST than that!

Describe how he is fascist. Look up the definition.

      • MCC

Agreed. Forcible suppression of opposition is a hallmark of fascism. Well, who is doing that? Who started Canceling speakers because of their political views? Who started fires and burning in our cities? Who labels anyone a racist for speaking an opposing view?

        • MCC

My reply above was to Anonymous not Coffey. Just to be clear.

DeSantis was taking illegal campaign money from Lev Parnas, who worked for a Russian oligarch. So, it’s not surprising his staff is supported by Anti-American elements.

What is the most glaring political issue facing Floridians ahead of Legislative Session?
