Kat Cammack outlines her support for the Second Amendment

Republican congressional candidate Kat Cammack turned her attention to the topic of guns on Wednesday, releasing a new digital ad outlining her strong support of the Second Amendment.

The ad, titled “Well-Regulated,” details Cammack’s stance on the right to carry and highlights her “A” rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA).

“At the end of the day, the more that we continue to infringe on our Second Amendment rights, the more at risk we are at losing our First Amendment rights,” Cammack says in the new spot. “A well-regulated militia is critical to the national security of our nation, and to keeping people free in America.”

Cammack, a small businesswoman and former Deputy Chief of Staff for Congressman Ted Yoho, released a statement following the video, promising to always protect the right to keep and bear arms.

“I will always uphold and defend our Second Amendment rights. As a concealed carry permit holder and the wife to a first responder, I am adamant about protecting this most basic American right. This issue is personal to me and my family,” Cammack said in a press release.

“I am a board member for the Alachua County Friends of the NRA, so I have put my beliefs into action by working to defend our right to keep and bear arms in our own community. Furthermore, when I worked as Representative Ted Yoho’s Deputy Chief of Staff, I was proud to work on legislation to protect our gun rights on Capitol Hill. You can be certain that when elected to Congress, I will stand resolute in defense of our Second Amendment. We cannot be a free nation without the right to carry and I vow to defend that at every turn,” she concluded.

Cammack, who is fresh off a straw poll victory in Clay County, is one of 10 Republicans looking to replace Yoho who is retiring at the end of his current term.

She has been endorsed by several big-name backers including U.S. Senator Rand Paul and We Build the Wall founder Brian Kolfage. Cammack’s campaign has also announced endorsements from more local leaders, activists, and elected officials than anyone else in the race.

Also seeking the GOP nomination are businessman Judson Sapp, Clay County Commissioner Gavin Rollins, Gainesville City Commissioner Todd Chase, former congressional aide Joe Millado, physician James St. George, businessman Ryan Chamberlin, businessman Bill Engelbrecht, businessman David Theus, and businesswoman Amy Pope Wells.

FL-03 includes Alachua, Bradford, Marion, Union, Putnam, and Clay counties and is largely made up of Republican voters. Yoho won the red district in 2016 earning 57.6% of the vote.
