State Rep. Kevin Steele announced he is ending his campaign for Florida chief financial officer and will instead seek reelection to the Florida House, according to a statement released Thursday.

“After much prayer and reflection with my family, we have made the decision that I will seek re-election to Florida House District 55,” Steele said. He added that being present for his family and continuing to serve his local community were central to his decision.

Steele also announced his endorsement of current Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia. He said he had spoken with Ingoglia and was giving him his “full and total endorsement.”

Steele had been running for the statewide Cabinet position, which oversees state financial operations, including accounting, auditing and insurance regulation. With his announcement, he is no longer a candidate for chief financial officer.
