Maggie’s List backs Amanda Makki’s CD 13 bid

Maggie’s List, a federal political action committee (PAC), is backing GOP candidate Amanda Makki for Florida’s 13th Congressional District in 2022.

The PAC, which is dedicated to electing fiscally conservative women to federal office, announced the endorsement in a press release on Monday, touting Makki’s values and strong conservative record.

“We are delighted to endorse Amanda Makki in the race for Florida’s 13th Congressional District. Amanda is an outstanding champion for fiscal conservatism, less government, and strong national security. She is the perfect candidate to flip this open seat back to conservative control as it was for four decades. Pinellas County will be lucky to have their first female member of Congress be a strong conservative voice,” said Carole Jean Jordan, Maggie’s List Florida Chairman.

Makki, an attorney and conservative national commentator who has been featured on national networks such as Fox, Newsmax, CNBC International, BBC, Sky News and Fox Business, is a graduate of the University of Maryland, where she obtained her degrees in Finance and Business Management and the Catholic University of America where she obtained her law degree. Highlighting the endorsement in a press release, Makki noted the importance of the endorsement and thanked the conservative women’s group for backing her campaign.

“Maggie’s List is one of the most powerful voices for strong conservative women in politics. Their endorsement is an enormous vote of confidence in my campaign and I am honored to be chosen as their candidate for Florida’s 13th Congressional District. I will continue to fight for the principles and values that keep America great and tirelessly work to stop the spread of socialism, reject open borders, and end critical race theory in our schools,” Makki added.

Back in July, Makki announced her candidacy again for the seat during a campaign kickoff event in Largo. She also ran for the seat in 2020 but was edged out by Anna Paulina Luna in the Republican Primary. Luna, an ardent Trump supporter, netted 36 percent of the vote to Makki’s 29 percent. Despite winning the primary, Luna would go on to lose to Democratic incumbent Charlie Crist.

Makki and Luna are the only major Republicans to enter the race at this time, with both hoping to turn the once-Republican stronghold red again after Crist flipped the seat in 2017. Both, however, face an uphill battle as CD 13 currently has a Democratic advantage as well as a strong Democratic field with State Representatives Ben Diamond and Michele Rayner declaring their candidacies.
