Matt Gaetz said he is returning to public service after being appointed to the Triumph Gulf Coast, Inc. Board of Directors by Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez.
Gaetz announced the appointment Tuesday in a post on X, thanking Perez and saying he looked forward to “improving the lives of Northwest Floridians.” The post included a June 23 letter from Perez informing Gaetz of the appointment.
According to the letter, Gaetz’s term on the board begins July 1, 2026, and continues through June 30, 2030. The letter was addressed to Gaetz in Niceville and said Susan Skelton of Triumph Gulf Coast would be notified of the appointment. Gov. Ron DeSantis, Senate President Ben Albritton and Skelton were copied on the letter.
Triumph Gulf Coast oversees the distribution of settlement funds directed to Northwest Florida following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The organization supports projects related to economic development, workforce training, infrastructure and regional recovery in counties affected by the spill.
Gaetz, a former congressman from Northwest Florida, described the appointment as a return to public service. The post did not indicate that he was announcing a campaign for elected office.
