Mayo Clinic Jacksonville was named the top hospital in Florida by U.S. News & World Report, marking the eighth time in nine years, while Tampa General Hospital rose to the second highest-ranked hospital in the state.
Mayo Clinic Jacksonville was named the top hospital in Florida by U.S. News & World Report this week, marking the eighth time in nine years it has received this distinction.
The hospital was also recognized nationally in 10 medical specialties, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, ear, nose and throat, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and lung surgery, and urology.

In an issued statement, Mayo Clinic Jacksonville reported that it treats over 164,000 patients annually across 50 specialty areas, employs approximately 10,000 staff members, and contributes more than $4 billion to the state’s economy. The Jacksonville campus, which spans 602 acres, has serves as a hub for medical excellence since its establishment in 1986, attracting patients from all 50 states and more than 80 countries.
Tampa General Hospital (TGH) rose to the second highest-ranked hospital in Florida, up from fourth last year while remaining the top-ranked hospital in the Tampa Bay region for the ninth consecutive year.
TGH was recognized nationally in eight medical specialties: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, ear, nose and throat, gastroenterology and GI surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, and urology. Notably, the hospital ranks sixth in the nation for obstetrics and gynecology and is among the top 50 for cancer and cardiology and heart surgery.
John Couris, president and CEO of Tampa General, attributed the hospital’s rise to its partnership with USF Health.
“This significant national recognition is further evidence that Tampa General is truly an innovative, academic health system that delivers world-class care across the enterprise,” he said. “Our climb to the second highest-ranking hospital in the state and our national recognition in multiple specialties is a testament to the strength of our partnership with USF Health and the collaborative efforts of our teams to advance research, innovation, and technology.”
The University of Florida Health Shands hospital was ranked third in the state, with Seven medical specialties honored among the best in the nation.
