Metronet is expanding its services in the Tallahassee, bringing faster internet and more storage capacity to customers in the Capital City.

The Indiana-based telecommunications company announced on Monday that residents and businesses in Tallahassee are the first in the state to have access to their upgraded, multi-gigabit service. In addition to Metronet’s current offerings of 1 gigabit per second, speeds up to 2 gigabits are now available for residents, with businesses being able to increase their speeds to 10 gigabits.

Metronet is proud to officially deploy access to multi-gigabit speeds throughout Tallahassee,” said Bill Gilliam, Metronet’s Florida General Manager. “Multi-gigabit speeds are a game changer for the communities we serve while providing residents and businesses with service that will continue to support the continued growth and economic development of Tallahassee for years to come. Coupled with our exceptional customer service, our multi-gigabit symmetrical speeds will provide this community with an internet experience that they can rely on.”

Metronet added that the updates to multi-gigabit speeds were made with no disruption to the current Tallahassee infrastructure.

Metronet, the nation’s largest independently owned, 100 percent fiber optic company, has seen a rapid growth across the U.S and much of Florida in recent years, connecting homes and businesses to high-speed, symmetrical internet that allows users to upload as quickly as they download over fiber optic strands.

In 2019, MetroNet crowned Tallahassee Florida’s first “gigabit city” following a $75 million investment for a new high-speed fiber optic internet, TV and phone network. The company followed that up in April 2021, announcing the grand opening of the Tallahassee market, making it the first MetroNet storefront in the state of Florida.

The company has since expanded into other communities in Florida, including Palm Coast and Daytona Beach.

According to data from Ookla Speedtest Intelligence, Metronet is ranked the “Fastest Internet Service Provider in Tallahassee.”

Metronet noted that in the coming months, other communities throughout Metronet’s 16-state service area will join Tallahassee with access to multi-gigabit speeds.
