Rep. Toby Overdorf is making a bid for the Florida Senate, filing paperwork last week and formally launching his campaign Monday to succeed term-limited Sen. Gayle Harrell in District 31.

The Palm City Republican, who has represented parts of the Treasure Coast in the House since 2018, becomes the first candidate in the race for the seat, which includes Martin County and portions of St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties.

Florida Politics was first to report the announcement.

“Grateful for the opportunity to earn your support!” Rep. Overdorf said on Monday.

Overdorf, an environmental consultant by trade, cast his Senate run as an extension of his work in the House, where he’s backed legislation on regulatory reform, water quality, property insurance, and economic development. He credited Harrell for her years of service and said he plans to continue building on her record.

Overdorf is term-limited in the House after 2026, making the open Senate seat a natural next step.
