Representative Bobby Payne (R-Palatka), was appointed to the Southern States Energy Board today by Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives Chris Sprowls.

“Representative Payne’s long, impressive record in the energy sector will serve him well on the Southern States Energy Board,” said Sprowls. “His extensive knowledge in electric power generation, transmission and distribution across the state of Florida will prepare him well for this new role serving Florida’s consumers and our energy industry while protecting our natural resources and wildlife.”

The Southern States Energy Board was enacted by Congress in 1960 to enhance economic and innovations in energy and environment programs. Sixteen southern states and two territories are represented on the Board, with each Governor and two legislators from each delegation. Payne will serve with the Governor Ron DeSantis, Senator Jeff Brandes, Senator Debbie Mayfield (Alternate), Representative Jay Trumbull (Alternate) and Kelley Burk (Agriculture Commissioner’s Appointee)

Payne also serves in the Florida House as Chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee. In the 2016-2018 Session, he served as Vice Chairman of the Energy and Utilities Subcommittee. During his tenure in the House, Payne has advocated for legislation regarding land and water use and greater efficiency in energy production. Additionally, he served several roles during a 38-year career at Seminole Electric Cooperative, including Manager of Operations at the Seminole Generating Station in Palatka.
