Publix lands on Forbes’ America’s Best Large Employers list

  • Publix has once again been recognized by Forbes as one of the best large employers in the country.
  • The Lakeland supermarket chain ranked No. 6 in the retail and wholesale industry.
  • It also cracked the top 100 total companies on the list.

Publix has again made Forbes’ America’s Best Large Employers list, ranking No. 6 in the retail and wholesale industry and No. 82 of 500 total companies.

“It’s an honor to know that our associates enjoy working at Publix and would recommend us to their friends and family,” said Publix Director of Communications Maria Brous. “For more than 90 years, our associates have shared our culture and driven our success. We’re proud of their contributions and remain committed to investing in them.”

Publix, the largest employee-owned company in the U.S. with more than 230,000 associates, currently operates 1,304 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

Forbes highlighted the company’s culture, which provides associates with on-the-job training, promote-from-within opportunities, and tuition reimbursement programs to help further their career goals.

As the largest employee-owned company in the country, eligible Publix associates can become company owners through its employee stock ownership plan and also have the ability to purchase additional shares in the company through its employee stock purchase plan.

Publix also noted that the company promotes open communication, encouraging its associates to formally share their feedback through its annual survey, as well as ideas for ways to help improve the grocery chain through an internal site.

Forbes partnered with the market research firm Statista to compile the list of America’s Best Large Employers. The ranking is based on a survey of about 45,000 workers at American companies and institutions with 5,000 or more employees.

Participants were asked if they would recommend their current employers to friends and family (on a scale of 0 to 10), and to cite any other employer they would also recommend. The final list ranks the 500 large employers that received the most recommendations.
