Rep. Kevin Steele Enters 2026 Race for Florida CFO

State Rep. Kevin Steele, a Republican from Pasco County and one of the Legislature’s wealthiest members, has filed to run for Florida Chief Financial Officer, setting up a GOP primary challenge against incumbent CFO Blaise Ingoglia in the 2026 election cycle.

Steele, who represents House District 55, submitted his paperwork on Nov. 18. A former healthcare technology executive, Steele founded Tampa-based DataLink Software in 2001 and retired after selling the company in 2022. His most recent financial disclosure listed a net worth exceeding $300 million.

In announcing his candidacy, Steele said he intends to focus his campaign on affordability issues, government spending oversight, and what he described as applying business-management principles to state finances. He also said the CFO’s office should play a larger role in addressing insurance and cost-of-living pressures facing residents.

“Florida families deserve a CFO who fights waste, protects taxpayers, lowers costs, and runs government like a winning business,” he said on X. “I’ll bring my results-driven, America First mindset to make Florida stronger and more affordable for everyone.”

Steele has received an early endorsement from U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, who called him “a proven leader” and highlighted his private-sector background.

“[Kevin Steele] is a proven leader and a true conservative who has dedicated his career to creating jobs and making life more affordable for Florida families, Scott said. “I’m proud to endorse Kevin because he’ll bring that same focus to the CFO’s office.”
