U.S. Senator Rick Scott endorsed former Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos for the U.S. House of Representatives, pointing to their past collaborations during Scott’s tenure as Florida governor.
United States Senator Rick Scott formally endorsed former Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos on Monday in his bid to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Haridopolos served as the Florida Senate President from 2010 to 2012 under Scott’s gubernatorial administration. In his campaign announcement last week, he emphasized his commitment to addressing pressing national issues such as immigration and economic policy, aligning closely with former President and Scott ally Donald Trump’s America First agenda.
“We made a great team in Tallahassee and I look forward to working with him in Washington, DC,” Scott said in his statement of endorsement. “He is a proven, tested conservative who will hit the ground running.”
Haridopolos announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in Florida’s 8th Congressional District on Friday, seeking to replace the retiring Rep. Bill Posey.
The announcement came hours after Posey, a Republican who has represented the district since 2008, declared he would not seek reelection at the end of his term. Posey subsequently endorsed Haridopolos.
Congressional District 8, covering Brevard, Indian River, and part of Orange County, is a Republican stronghold, with Posey having secured the seat comfortably in past elections. Haridopolos’ entry into the race is expected to maintain the GOP’s strong presence in the area.
Endorsements for Haridopolos have started to accumulate from high-profile conservatives, including Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis.
“Mike Haridopolos led the Florida Senate at a difficult time in Florida’s economy with Rick Scott as Governor. Mike helped to get Florida back on its feet and we have been thriving ever since. Im proud to support my friend Mike Haridopolos for United States Congress,” Patronis said on X.
