U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody endorsed Wilton Simpson’s reelection campaign for Florida agriculture commissioner Tuesday, as the incumbent seeks a second term in the role.

Moody, a former Florida attorney general appointed to the U.S. Senate earlier this year, said Simpson’s background in agriculture makes him suited to continue leading the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. In a statement released by Simpson’s campaign, Moody said Simpson has spent his life working on issues tied to food production, farmers and the state’s agricultural economy.

“Wilton Simpson has dedicated his entire life to protecting our food supply and the hard working farmers who have made it their mission to feed Florida,” said Sen. Moody. “Wilton tackles the challenges we face with the combined wisdom of a farmer and a father, addressing root causes aimed at long-term solutions. I am proud to endorse my friend Wilton Simpson for Agriculture Commissioner because I know he will always fight for a stronger, more prosperous Florida.”

Simpson, a Republican and former Senate president, opened a campaign account last week for the 2026 agriculture commissioner race. He was elected agriculture commissioner in 2022 after serving in the Florida Senate, where he rose to Senate president.

The commissioner oversees a department with responsibilities that include agriculture regulation, consumer services, forestry, food safety and support for Florida’s farming and ranching industries.
