Florida Senate President-Designate Jim Boyd announced his leadership team Thursday for the 2026-2028 legislative term, naming five Republican senators to key positions overseeing chamber operations, budget development and legislative priorities.
Boyd selected Sen. Ana Maria Rodriguez to serve as Senate President Pro Tempore, Sen. Danny Burgess as Rules Committee chair, Sen. Jay Trumbull as Appropriations Committee chair, Sen. Colleen Burton as Fiscal Policy Committee chair and Sen. Nick DiCeglie as Senate Majority Leader.
In a memorandum to senators, Boyd emphasized fiscal responsibility, legislative experience and bipartisan cooperation as guiding considerations in assembling his leadership team.
Rodriguez, who will require a vote of the Senate to assume the president pro tempore position, would help oversee chamber proceedings and ensure adherence to Senate rules alongside Boyd and Burgess.
Trumbull will lead the Senate’s budget development process, drawing on previous experience chairing appropriations committees in both legislative chambers. Boyd said Trumbull would prioritize limiting spending growth, reducing state debt and maintaining reserves.
Burton will oversee legislation with fiscal implications, providing an alternative committee pathway for financially consequential bills while Appropriations develops the state budget. Boyd emphasized continued scrutiny of government spending following adjustments to post-pandemic budget levels.
DiCeglie will lead the Republican caucus and coordinate legislative activity on the Senate floor, while Burgess will oversee procedural matters through the Rules Committee.
The appointments come as Boyd prepares to assume the Senate presidency during the upcoming organization session, establishing the chamber’s leadership structure for the next two years.
