Space Florida and the Israel Innovation Authority have awarded $2 million to various aerospace technology projects, including wastewater treatment systems, radiation protection, autonomous vehicle communication, and traffic management, as part of their joint funding initiative to drive technological advancement.
Space Florida and the Israel Innovation Authority have awarded $2 million to a consortium of aerospace technology projects in the latest round of their joint funding initiative.
The funding recipients for this year include KBR Wyle Services from Titusville, Florida, and Purammon LTD from Israel. They will develop a new wastewater treatment system for crewed spaceflight, using electrochemistry for improved efficiency. Lockheed Martin from Merritt Island, Florida, and Israel’s StemRad will collaborate on radiation protection systems for astronauts.
Guident Autonomous Intelligence in Boca Raton, Florida, and Israel’s Novelsat Limited will develop an advanced autonomous vehicle communication system. The focus will be on low-latency satellite services to enhance teleoperation safety.
SRF Consulting Group from Tallahassee, Florida, and Israel’s Mobility Insight will work on a Traffic Management as a Service system in Central Florida. Using artificial intelligence, the system will analyze transportation data to predict and address traffic issues in real-time.
“The Space Florida-Israel Innovation Partnership Program stands as a testament to the power of international collaboration in driving technological advancement and economic development,” said Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez.
Starting in 2013, the initiative has provided funds for over 30 projects to promote collaboration in aerospace and technology advancement. It has now funded over $22 million in research. The program drives innovation in aerospace and technology projects and supports research, development, and commercialization, which benefits both Florida and Israel’s economies.
The program additionally allows Florida to access Israeli technology and Israel to access Florida’s strong aerospace foundations.
“This initiative not only strengthens the collaboration between Florida and Israel but also drives forward the research, development, and commercialization of groundbreaking aerospace technologies,” added Rob Long, president and CEO, Space Florida. “We look forward to seeing the continued advancements and economic benefits that these projects will bring to both of our regions.”
