Three Florida hospitals — Mayo Clinic – Jacksonville, Cleveland Clinic – Florida, and Tampa General Hospital — ranked in the top 100 of a hospital review conducted by Newsweek.

Mayo Clinic – Jacksonville earned the distinction of being the top-ranked hospital in the state, coming in at 17th overall on the list. The Mayo Clinic is known for its world-class medical facilities and its commitment to patient-centered care.

The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville is a major healthcare provider in Northeast Florida and Southern Georgia, with over 400 physicians and 3,500 support staff. The facility is located on a 400-acre campus that includes several patient care buildings, research facilities, and educational institutions.

Mayo Clinic’s Jacksonville campus is known for its expertise in several areas, including cancer care, cardiology, neurology, and orthopedics. It is also a leader in organ transplantation, with programs for heart, liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants. Research conducted at the facility has led to a series of medical breakthroughs, including new treatments for cancer, heart disease, and neurological disorders.

In Leapfrog’s annual assessment of hospitals in Florida, Mayo Clinic – Jacksonville was among the highest rated in Florida, earning high marks in comprehensive care and patient safety measures.

Cleveland Clinic – Florida, the state’s second-highest ranked facility, was placed at 45th.  With more than 220 physicians, the hospital is a major healthcare provider for South Florida.

Cleveland Clinic is known for its expertise in several areas, including cardiology, neurology, oncology, and orthopedics. The hospital serves as a center for innovation in advanced surgical techniques, including minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery.

Tampa General Hospital (TGH), the largest medical institution in the bay area, ranked 88th nationally, serving as the primary teaching hospital for the University of South Florida Health Morsani College of Medicine. TGH is well-regarded for its expertise in specialties like cardiology, neurology, and orthopedics. It earned a three-year accreditation from the Commission on Cancer last year while also being recognized by Forbes as a top ten employer in Florida.

Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) was also recognized among America’s best hospitals, appearing at 146th. SMH was critical to the recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian last year, recording a record number of patients through the storm’s landfall. The hospital was one of the few health centers in the area to remain operational amid rising storm surges and powerful winds.

“Despite a multitude of challenges during the pandemic, our team continues to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to provide our community with world-class care,” said Sarasota Memorial Health Care System CEO David Verinder. “This kind of performance is possible because of the diligence and dedication of our entire team, from frontline physicians and nurses to the many other clinicians and non-clinical staff supporting their care.”
