Moody overwhelmingly backed by law enforcement groups for re-election

Three law enforcement organizations are backing Attorney General Ashley Moody‘s re-election bid.

Moody’s campaign announced on Tuesday that the Florida Fraternal Order of Police (FFOP), Florida Police Benevolent Association (FPBA), and Florida Police Chiefs Association (FPCA) have endorsed her candidacy. The support from the police trio comes one week after Moody earned endorsements from 64 of Florida’s 66 elected sheriffs.

“The Florida Fraternal Order of Police have firsthand knowledge of the dedication and leadership shown by Ashley Moody, and we are proud to endorse her to continue the hard work that she has begun in Florida as its Attorney General,” said Florida Fraternal Order of Police President Bobby Jenkins.

“As our Attorney General, Ashley Moody insists that the men and women of law enforcement and corrections be treated with the utmost respect. Her ‘Back the Blue’ campaign continues to support and defend the law enforcement officers of our state by highlighting all the good officers from Florida do for our society. We know that Ashley Moody and her administration will protect law enforcement and correctional officers. We have her back, and we know she has ours,” added Florida Police Benevolent Association President John Kazadijn.

“On behalf of the Florida Police Chiefs Association, we are honored to endorse Attorney General Ashley Moody for reelection. General Moody has devoted her entire career to enforcing our laws, preserving the safety of our communities, and upholding the rule of law,” concluded Florida Police Chiefs Association President Keith Touchberry.

Moody, a fifth-generation Floridian, attended the University of Florida where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting in addition to her law degree. She later attended Stetson University College of Law earning a Masters of Law in International Law.

She began her legal career with the law firm of Holland & Knight where she practiced commercial litigation. She would later join the United States Attorney’s Office prosecuting drug, firearm, and fraud offenses, before becoming the youngest judge in Florida when she was elected Circuit Court Judge of the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in Hillsborough County in 2006.

Moody was elected as Florida’s 38th Attorney General in 2018.

In a news release, Moody thanked each law enforcement organization for supporting her and reaffirmed her commitment to the men and women in blue.

“Florida is home to so many incredibly brave and selfless law enforcement officials. We must continue to support them as they put their lives on the line, every single day, to ensure our families, friends, and neighbors are protected from predatory scams and senseless crimes. I am committed to leading these efforts and collaborating with the Florida Fraternal Order of Police, Florida Police Benevolent Association, and the Florida Police Chiefs Association to ensure their members have the resources they need and know, without a doubt, that they are valued. It is truly an honor to have these well-respected organizations’ endorsements, and I look forward to the important work we will accomplish together in the years ahead,” said Moody.

Following last week’s primary, Moody will face Democrat Aramis Ayala in November.
