Florida’s finest continue to line up behind Governor Ron DeSantis’ re-election campaign, with the Republican governor netting his third major law enforcement endorsement this week.
The Florida State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police announced on Thursday it was backing DeSantis’ re-election bid. The Florida State FOP is the world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers with over 364,000 worldwide members. The Florida State Lodge represents more than 23,000 law enforcement officers and ranks as the third-largest state lodge in America.
Today’s announcement marks a trifecta for DeSantis this week. On Monday, he earned an endorsement from 59 sheriffs across the state, and followed it up yesterday with an endorsement by the Florida Police Chiefs Association. DeSantis also has the support of the Florida Police Benevolent Association (PBA), which was the first in line to back his re-election campaign.
“Florida’s law enforcement officers demonstrate a daily commitment to serving and protecting their communities and making our state a safer place, and we are deeply grateful for their support,” said DeSantis. “But it’s not just the officers who bear the burden of their sacrifices, it’s their families and loved ones, too. I will always have their backs, and never stop standing up for the brave men and women of Florida’s law enforcement.”
Throughout his first term and re-election campaign, DeSantis has emphasized the importance of law enforcement and reestablishing law and order in the Sunshine State. As part of his plan to recruit and retain law enforcement officers, DeSantis recently proposed $5,000 signing bonuses for new recruits. The bonuses will provide a one-time $5,000 payment to sworn law enforcement officers who are new to the profession in Florida.
DeSantis also doubled down on his commitment to Florida’s finest during his State of the State address, urging the legislature to re-up bonuses for police, fire and EMTs, while also increasing officer pay and boosting bonuses for those who protect Florida.
“We believe in Governor DeSantis and there is no doubt that he will continue to serve our state and his constituents fairly, and with a focus on safety and prosperity,” said Bobby Jenkins, President of the Florida State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police.
Jenkins continued, “The Fraternal Order of Police have worked hand-in-hand with Governor DeSantis and have given him our continued faith in his dedication to his community and to the men and women of law enforcement. Governor Ron DeSantis has shown an understanding of the dangers law enforcement officers encounter and has welcomed conservative, common-sense solutions to the problems and risks we face daily. Through his leadership and actions, Governor Ron DeSantis has restored the faith of Florida’s police officers.”
