The University of Central Florida has appointed Bill Poirier as its next chief information officer, selecting the longtime technology executive following a national search. He is scheduled to begin the role July 28.
Poirier most recently served as vice chancellor for technology and chief information officer at the University System of New Hampshire. His background includes more than 30 years of leadership experience in higher education, state government, the military, and the private sector. A retired U.S. Air Force colonel, Poirier has held roles as a chief executive, chief technology officer and information systems leader in both civilian and military capacities.
University officials cited Poirier’s record of managing large-scale organizational and technology overhauls, as well as his reputation for building effective teams and promoting operational transparency.
“As we look to the future, Bill’s innovative mindset, collaborative approach, and deep technical expertise will help us further modernize and optimize our academic, research, and administrative systems and technology infrastructure,” UCF President Alexander N. Cartwright said. “I know he will be a trusted leader as we continue to advance our future as Florida’s Premier Engineering and Technology University.”
Poirier holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a master’s in national security strategy from the National War College, and an MBA from Strayer College.
“I am honored to join UCF at this moment in time,” Poirier says. “The mission, the people, the culture, and the focus on excellence are amazing. I am excited to partner with faculty, staff, and students to deliver world-class capabilities that support our students, research and Florida’s workforce of today and of the future.”
