The University of Florida (UF) ranked first among the nation’s largest public universities in a new assessment measuring how well institutions are preparing students for an economy increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
Los Angeles-based AIREDEX gave UF an overall AI readiness score of 9.7 out of 10, placing it at the top of the organization’s first comparison of large-enrollment public universities. The University of Central Florida also appeared in the top 10, ranking eighth.
The assessment examined universities across four categories: institutional commitment, curriculum, industry partnerships and research. AIREDEX said UF stood out because of its undergraduate AI offerings, campuswide technology infrastructure and partnerships with the private sector.
Among the programs cited was UF’s AI Across the Curriculum initiative, which is designed to provide students with AI-related preparation regardless of their field of study. The assessment also highlighted HiPerGator, UF’s university-owned supercomputer; the university’s partnership with chipmaker NVIDIA; the AI² Center; and NaviGator AI, a generative AI platform available to students, faculty and staff.
“This recognition underscores the university’s commitment to making AI education accessible across every discipline,” said Joe Glover, interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. “By investing in curriculum, computing infrastructure and AI tools for students and faculty, we’re ensuring every graduate is prepared to thrive in an AI-enabled workforce.”
AIREDEX developed the rankings using publicly available information, including university announcements, academic program data, research publications, industry partnerships and policy disclosures.
UF officials said the university has focused on providing broad access to advanced computing resources and AI tools as employers increasingly seek workers who understand how to use artificial intelligence. The ranking measures institutional preparation and publicly documented AI activity rather than graduate employment outcomes or individual student proficiency.
