- The University of Florida College of Pharmacy rose two spots in national rankings, entering the upper echelon of graduate programs within the field
- The school brought in $32.3 million in research funding, an all-time high and an increase of 400 percent compared to 2013
- The school as a whole was recently ranked as the fifth best public university in America
The University of Florida College of Pharmacy (UFCoP) jumped two spots to third in the country for overall research funding in the most recent American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) report. The school’s placement marks the only Florida school within the top fifty of the list and puts UFCoP on par with elite public schools like the University of North Carolina.
UFCoP received $32.3 million in research funding, a new high for yearly research funding at the college and representing a nearly fourfold increase over the $8.5 million acquired in 2013. The $32.3 million is comprised of National Institute of Health funding ($22.1 million) and federal funding ($25.9 million).
“To achieve these record-setting results takes a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication by our faculty and the research teams who support them,” said Julie Johnson, dean and distinguished professor in the UF College of Pharmacy. “Scientific discovery is a never-ending pursuit, and our faculty have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving the health and welfare of others through their pharmaceutical research.”
AACP’s report also indicated that 92.5% of the college’s tenure-track research faculty were grant-funded, setting a new statistical high for the college.
As a University, Florida ranked fifth in the U.S. News ranking of public education institutions. U.S. News & World Report, the aggregator of the rankings, recognized dozens of UF graduate programs as among the best in the country, continuing the university’s strong showing after a banner year in the rankings and celebrating the university’s excellence in teaching and research across individual colleges.
Programs named within the top 10 within their fields include tax law (No. 3), biological/agricultural engineering (No. 5), special education (No. 5), pharmacy (No. 3), student counseling (No. 6), veterinary medicine (No. 9), analytical chemistry (No. 9), and occupational therapy (No. 10).
