The ReCap: the morning email to read when you don’t have time to read anything else

by | Jan 24, 2020

Next Monday, The Capitolist will formally launch “The ReCap,” a new entrant into Florida’s morning political email ecosystem. Landing in inboxes just before 7:30am each morning, The ReCap delivers a snapshot of the past 24 hours in Florida’s political news cycle. It is designed from the ground up to deliver maximum value while saving time. The email delivers links to news stories from every major political media outlet in state, from legacy newspaper sites to digital news sites in direct competition with The Capitolist.

The decision to compete against several established morning email newsletters is not a trivial matter. We knew from the start that we wanted The Capitolist’s morning email entrant to deliver something uniquely useful, something valuable, and something that is not just a copycat of emails you already receive.

We are very proud of what we came up with. The sleek, clean appearance of The Recap is designed for rapid skimming so that subscribers can find exactly the stories they are looking for without having to wade through paragraph after paragraph of editorialized text or hand-picked content. In The ReCap, we present all the day’s biggest stories just as they were posted over the past 24 hours, period.

Key features of The ReCap include color coded sources to allow rapid identification of which media outlet published the story, a timestamp to help identify when the story originally appeared, the author of the story, and a hyperlink. In addition, The Capitolist’s automated system adds special icons for all major issues, including education, environment, campaign finance, gun control, medical marijuana, energy, transportation and many more. This same breaking news format is visible on The Capitolist home page where it is updated in real time. We believe these icons help speed the skimming process and make sure you don’t miss key stories that are important to you or your clients.  Here’s a small sampling of what you might see each morning:

As with all new things, there may be a few bugs to iron out, or significant improvements we can make so that you receive a useful product in your inbox each morning. We are committed to making such changes and continuously improving the product. We think you’ll like it.
