A study conducted by FinanceBuzz found Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to be the least expensive airports in the U.S., with average fares of $265.58 and $271.78 respectively.

A study conducted last month by FinanceBuzz identified Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) as the two least expensive airports to fly out of in the United States.

MCO topped the list with an average fare of $265.58, making it the most affordable airport for travelers. FLL followed closely with an average fare of $271.78. The study, focusing on base airline prices and excluding additional fees, analyzed the 45 busiest airports in the country, revealing insight into airfare trends and costs.

Other airports cracking the list of least expensive options included Las Vegas McCarran International Airport in third place, Oakland International Airport in fourth, and San Diego International Airport in fifth.

Conversely, Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) was found to be the most expensive airport to fly out of, with an average fare of $488.90. Following IAD were San Francisco International Airport, Salt Lake City International Airport, Charlotte Douglas International Airport, and Detroit Metro Airport, which rounded out the top five priciest airports.

Despite the variation in airfare costs across different airports, the study highlighted a positive national trend: a 3.1 percent decrease in average airfare prices from 2022 to 2023, adjusted for inflation. In 2023, the average domestic airfare was $381.32, compared to the inflation-adjusted average of $393.14 in the previous year.

This decrease in airfare costs, combined with the affordability of airports like those in Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, offers promising news for travelers seeking economic options. In addition to this downward trend in national airfare prices, Florida is establishing itself as a key hub for affordable air travel with its competitive fares.
